None of this could have been achieved without our lovely builders:

Monday, 29 September 2008

As we couldn't get a local builder to come and quote for rebuilding the loft, we were fortunate to have a specialist firm recommended to us. Mark (rates highly in the cute stakes) brought his foreman out today to start planning the job and making arrangements to start next Monday.

Do we have a good builder? Well, when he originally came he apologised for arriving two minutes later than he said, and he lives over 60 miles away. Now that's impressive! He also brought with him a portfolio of work completed along with a long list of satisfied clients with their phone numbers for us to check up on his work! He told us his men don't natter on the job or take tea breaks, they like to get on with their work. Is this a new breed of builder? Whatever it is, we think we've struck lucky. And to top it all he's a thoroughly nice bloke!

They also checked out the boiler to make sure there'll be hot water but after they left we could smell gas. Steve the gas came round later but gave us the bad news that the boiler was broken and a repair would be uneconomical. Tomorrow we'll be hunting down a suitable boiler and try to get it installed for next Monday - can't have the builders going without their showers.
